Faustian Myths

Prevalent among many theists are the Faustian myths. These myths often take the form:

Mr. X became successful or competent after he made a deal with the devil/god.

The unnamed premise behind this myth is that individual achievement is impossible for man through unaided effort. Any such event must of course be because of something evil & supernatural. I think these myths are disgusting because not only does it denounce the individual, but proclaims that all the hard work and effort someone took to be successful did never occur.
